The 1813 Society
Designating a bequest or account beneficiary is an easy and satisfying way for Senior Members and friends to leave lasting support to the Philomathean Society. Many donors find such a legacy to future generations of Penn students satisfying, with the first such designation made in 1984.
We welcome donations of all sizes, and bequests and designations can fit your wishes and personal commitments.
Beneficiary designations are relatively easy to accomplish by naming the Philomathean Endowment Trust as a partial or full beneficiary on a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, checking, savings or other financial account. This does not require a will or other instrument and can often be done online; inquire with your financial institution. Simply designate the “Philomathean Endowment Trust of the Philomathean Society/UPenn” as a percentage beneficiary, such as 5% to 100%, for the selected account. List College Hall, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104 as the address.
To leave a bequest, your will and estate plan can include appropriate language, such as specific, percentage, residual or contingent bequests. Contact Trustee Simon Glinsky, Philo ’84 for further information or assistance.
Please let the Trust know of your plans so that we can recognize you as a member of the 1813 Society by name or anonymously, as you wish.
Naming the Trust as a beneficiary of retirement accounts is an excellent way to leave a legacy to the Philomathean Society at the University of Pennsylvania.
